The Mayor and some of city council of Edmonton came up with a great idea.\u00a0 To reduce knife violence we should ban the sale of knives in the city.<\/p>\n
I will have to comment on some problems with this.<\/p>\n
1.\u00a0 The knives are already here.<\/p>\n
People in Edmonton have knives.\u00a0 If someone wants to get a poket knife they can get one.<\/p>\n
2.\u00a0 Kitchen knives are sharp.\u00a0 So are box cutters.<\/p>\n
People will just start using other blades in their stead.<\/p>\n
3.\u00a0 Edmonton is not an island nation.<\/p>\n
Leduc, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain… you will still be able to get knives from any of these places, how will they stop the sale of knives?\u00a0 Demanding proof of address at time of purchase in those cities as well?<\/p>\n
I understand that there is a problem with violent crimes in Edmonton right now, but there must be better solutions to this problem than trying to ban the sale of knives.\u00a0 I mean that’s the stupidest thing I have ever heard.\u00a0 I am glad to see that our politicians are not above stupidity, I was starting to feel inferior to US politics (a la intertubes).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
